Walter Jennings Carnes

He was a carpenter by trade.

On 3/3/1901, Walter married Rhote Vany Wear (b 1/28/1880 – d 12/2/1959, buried Shiloh Cemetery; daughter of Thomas Jefferson Wear and Mary Crowsen). Walter and Rhote lived in Wears Valley at Waldens Creek on the land she inherited from her mother, Mary Crowsen Wear. The first seven children of Walter and Rhote were born at their Henderson Springs Farm. They later sold the land and lived at Knob Creek in Seymour and also South Knoxville.

Walter Jennings Carnes was the son of John H. Carnes (b 7/2/1833 – d 2/26/1915, buried Shiloh) and Mary Fox (b 10/17/1839 – d 3/7/81, buried Shiloh). John H. Carnes, along with his 3 brothers, served in the Civil War Co. K, 2 TN Cav Union Pvt. John Carnes was a farmer.

Walter Jennings Carnes was the grandson of Hubbard Carnes (b 3/8/1797 VA - d 2/28/1864, buried Red Bank Cemetery) and Dicy Robertson (b 12/2/1800 SC - d 1/1/1878, buried Shiloh). Hubbard Carnes was a miller in the Red Bank Community.

Walter Jennings Carnes was also the grandson of Emanuel Fox (b1809) and Catherine Bird (b 1811-1813).
