State of Tennessee – Sevier County – Circuit Court – March Term – Whereas John T Shields, Revenue Collector of the Public Taxes for the County of Sevier, reported to court the following tracts of lands and town lots as having been given in for taxes for the years 1855, 1856 and 1857 and that the taxes thereon remain due and unpaid and that the respective owners or claimants thereof have no goods or chattels within his county on which he can distrain for said taxes, to wit:

  • Roadman heirs, one tract of land 700 acres lying in the 1st District, valued at $200;
  • Thomas Smith, one tract of 40 acres in District No. 1 at $150 dollars;
  • James Etherton, one tract of land, 104 acres in District No. 3 valued at $400;
  • Hetty Jenkins, one tract of 15 acres, lying in District No. 3, valued at $50;
  • Benjamin Langston, one tract of land 60 acres, lying in District No. 3, valued at $50;
  • John Reed, one town lot in District No. 5, valued at $100;
  • Frederick Emmett Sr., one tract of land, 140 acres, lying in District No. 6, valued at $1,000;
  • Wallace & Gillespy, one tract of land, 8,000 acres, lying in District No. 6, valued at $1,000;
  • Jacob Lyon, one tract of land, 5,000 acres, lying in District No. 6, valued at $500;
  • Jacob Lyon, one tract of land, 5,000 acres, lying on Cone Mountain and Little River, valued at $500;
  • G W F Stoffle, one tract of land, 200 acres, lying in District No. 7, valued at $100;
  • George Long, one tract of land and mills, 60 acres, lying in District No. 8, valued at $20 and land at $600;
  • Jas Wilcox's heirs, one tract of land, 17 acres, lying in District No. 8, valued at $100;
  • Sam'l Henry, one tract of land, 956 acres, lying in District No. 8, valued at $3,500;
  • Susan Scruggs, one tract of land, 25 acres, lying in District No. 9, valued at $100;
  • W G Brooks' heirs, one tract of land, 100 acres, lying in District No. 10, valued at $250;
  • Joshua E Monday, one tract of land, 100 acres, lying in District No. 10, valued at $150; Jas Brazelton, one tract of land, 100 acres, lying in District No. 11, valued at $100;
  • Jacob Peck, one tract of land, 20,000 acres, lying in District No. 11, valued at $800;
  • Ira Whaley & Peck, one tract of land, 5,000 acres, lying in District No. 11, valued at $100;
  • Wm Brown, one tract of 60 acres, lying in District No. 12, valued at $150;
  • Jas Petty, one tract of land, 100 acres, lying in District No. 12, valued at $600;
  • Elisha Rose, one tract of land, 227 acres, lying in District No. 9, valued at $200;
  • Thomas Johnson, one tract of 1,000 acres, lying in District No. 6, valued at $500;
  • W L Rogers, one tract of land, 5,000 acres, lying in District No. 11, valued at $200.
